Mother - daughter team, Darla Dike and Laney Henslee make working with family members look like a piece of cake. Not only do they both help customers with bookkeeping services at Darla Dike Bookkeeping, but they also run a boutique, The Pretty Peacock, as a team.
Both Darla and Laney have resided in the New Boston area for many years and have a strong connection with the community. Heavily involved at the First Baptist Church of New Boston and the New Boston School District, they both stay busy bettering the place they call home.
Darla began her experience in the bookkeeping world at the young age of 17 working at a construction company where she worked for 17 years and learned her payroll and bookkeeping skills. She then worked for another company for a while before taking a job with her husband, Joe Dike, CPA/PFS, and opening her own bookkeeping business.
Being an accredited tax preparer and currently working on professional payroll certification, Darla is more than qualified to handle her clients bookkeeping needs.
Laney joined her mother at Darla Dike Bookkeeping in 2009 and is now working as a certified tax specialist, helping clients with a wide range of needs. The pair recently went to a conference where they learned many new technological advances for their field, which will open up several doors in what services they can offer to their clients.
Currently doing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, sales tax reports, quarterly reports, bank reconciliations, and so much more, Darla and Laney stay on their toes helping clients with their bookkeeping responsibilities. Working with small farm owners to million dollar corporations, and performing personal tax returns, they can help clients from all walks of life meet their goals.
Darla believes working with Laney allows for the family to have more freedom and, “We like working together just fine. It works out great for us.”
Knowing all the projects each other does on a daily basis, the two are able to help each other with clients, while also running the Pretty Peacock boutique.
Having the space owned by the family, the duo made the decision to open The Pretty Peacock, which became open to the public on June 23, 2015. Bringing quality products and personalized gifts to the New Boston community has helped shoppers fulfill their gifting needs without having to travel long distances.
Specializing in clothes for children and women, the store also carries an assortment of gifts, personalized items such as jewelry, backpacks, Young Living Essential Oils, and more. Carrying girl’s clothing with sizes ranging from 6 months to 12, as well as juniors, women’s and plus sizes, they also carry clothing for boys with sizes from 0 to 7 in a variety of outfits.
“It’s nice to be able to have a team and not have to have it all on your shoulders all the time. We are together a lot, but it all works out,” Darla stated when speaking about working with Laney.
This mom and daughter duo personifies the definition of working women, and there is little doubt that they will continue to be an important part of the business scene in New Boston for many years to come, as they work together to make the area a better place to call home for everyone.
