Life Scout Chris Cochran of Troop 36 in New Boston is asking for your help with donations for his Eagle Project. And in helping Chris, you will also be supporting another worthy local cause. Chris’ Eagle Project is to collect at least five hundred items to donate to Manna Kitchen, a local organization that provides meals for the elderly and shut-ins. Chris, a freshman at New Boston High School, heard of their recent need to re-stock their pantry, and chose to help them for his Eagle Project. “I’m a life scout now, and one of the requirements for eagle scout is that you plan and carry out a project that helps someone in some way,” Chris explained. “In this case it’s a fundraiser to help Manna Kitchen. I heard of their need, and felt like this would be a good way to serve my community.”
Chris, the son of Ron and Paula Cochran, began participating in scouts in the first grade. Now that he is entering high school, and participating in both band and football, his free time is limited. However, Chris says the experiences he has gained in scouting makes it well worth it. “Scouts is just one of those things that still teaches good morals,” Chris says. “And I just have a good time. I’ve met so many great friends through scouts.”
Those interested in helping Chris meet his goal have several options. You may drop off non-perishable food items in the boxes Chris has placed at any of the following locations in New Boston: Wal-Mart, Brookshires, Bowie County Courthouse, Something Different Hair Salon, David’s Hair Design, or Anytime Fitness. Chris will also have a booth set up to accept donations at Pioneer Days, and scouts will be at Wal-Mart and Brookshires accepting donations on September 8th. Monetary donations are also encouraged, and can be arranged by calling Paula Cochran at (903)244-2263. You may also contact Paula to schedule donation pick-ups.
Some of the items Manna Kitchen is in need of are beans of any kind (including dried), mixed vegetables, peas, carrots, cream of chicken and mushroom soups, pastas of any kind, canned tuna, and fresh or frozen meats.
One hundred percent of donations accepted through this fundraiser will go directly to the Manna Kitchen.
