More local support a must for Simms VFD
It was a disappointing turnout at the Simms Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) fundraiser this past Saturday; especially in regards to the turnout from local officials and the Simms Independent School District’s Board of Trustees.
Only Dwight Byrd attended the event. There were also very few from the community there that night. But the items on the auction table were fabulous so everyone that didn’t make it really missed out.
I’m told that the event normally benefits the department $10,000, but this year Simms VFD only brought in $2,000.
This is less of a gripe, than a heads up to the community to keep these brave men and women in mind whether it is an election year or not. This department in particular has responded to some of the worst tragedies in the area over the past few years and has been relentless in their campaigning for fire safety and prevention.
