One of the best Christmas light displays in Northeast Texas may very well be located in Avery, as Avery High School Principal Daniel Pritchett has spent many hours in 2015 creating a symphony of lights at his home next to City Lake Park.

Pritchett’s efforts are in conjunction with the Avery High School HYPE group’s Christmas light contest currently in full swing throughout the community. Pritchett has a light display that is synchronized to music and can be heard using a car radio while watching the display. He has a donation box setup at his residence, with the proceeds going to the HYPE Tomato Shed project for Avery. The group hopes to raise enough funds to rebuild the historic Avery Tomato Shed that had to be demolished in recent years after decades of decay. Avery was once billed as “The Tomato Capital of Texas” and the shed was the last remaining relic of the town’s heyday as a thriving center of commerce.

On Monday, November 2, The Pretty Peacock will be hosting a Matilda Jane Trunk Show, which will be the first showing of their new Holiday line.

Matilda Jane Clothing is an exclusive brand that can only be shown and purchased through the Trunk Show experience. The Trunk Show is hosted by what the company calls a Jane, and a Trunk Keeper comes in to showcase all that Matilda Jane has to offer.

At the Trunk Show, guests are shown a variety of sample displays of their new lines firsthand. Offering sizes ranging from infants to women's, Matilda Jane specializes in one-of-a-kind collections that are both colorful and whimsical. Renowned for their clothing quality, the collections present an endless number of outfit combinations.

While many college students struggle to keep track of their checking accounts and student loans, 11 students from Texarkana A&M University-Texarkana have an opportunity to get real-world banking experience as members of the Commercial National Bank Collegiate Ambassador Board.

Now in its second year, the board’s mission is to educate students on activities and experiences within a financial institution, provide opportunities to gain experience and knowledge in serving as an advisory board member, and allow insight and the opportunity for feedback on the bank’s marketing strategies.
