Pet of the Week

Roxanne, who is nicknamed Roxie, is a small, pretty black and white terrier mix available for free adoption at Higgins Veterinary Clinic.  Her caretaker describes her as “A little love.”  She gives puppy kisses.
Roxie is a gentle dog and very shy.   She is a little afraid of new people when she first meets them, but with a kind person to adopt and love her, Roxie should settle in to be an extra sweet pet.  To adopt Roxie please call 903-949-5875 or 902-628-3966.

Tuppen receives scholarship

Anne Tuppen, of DeKalb, is the 2013 recipient of the Jo Stewart Maxwell Scholarship from the DeKalb Alumni Association.
With the help of this scholarship and others, Tuppen plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin and major in either Biomedical Engineering or Architecture. Because she has not yet decided on a future career, Tuppen will be entering college with an undeclared major, and plans on taking classes in a variety of fields. Throughout college, she also plans on being involved on campus, such as playing intramural volleyball and possibly running for student government.
“As nervous as I am about moving onto a huge campus with tens of thousands of people, hundreds of miles from home, I am looking forward to college as a plethora of new experiences waiting to be had, and am very excited to be starting soon”, Tuppen said.

Pet of the Week

This is Dixie. She is a Boxer, Pitt, Catahoula, Dachchund mix. She is very sweet, house-trained, and energetic. She is being fostered by a local family but, because they are fostering several dogs, needs a home of her own, where she can get the attention she deserves. She likes to run outside, but is, essentially, a house pet. She was relinquished by her owner who, having experienced job loss, was unable to afford to keep her. Please, if interested,  call the DeKalb Animal Shelter at 667-2410.
