Busy in business

By Melanie Pyle
Staff Reporter

Local business man Tim Graham puts the ‘busy’ in business. Most people know him as the owner/operator at New Boston Concrete.
While that keeps him busy, there’s a lot more going on than what meets the eye. Tim, with the infectious laugh, when I went to his office to chat with him, had been up since 1 a.m. that day doing business.
Not sitting at a computer in his pajamas sending emails, or on the phone to Hong Kong, but out working hard doing hands on labor on a grain silo in De Kalb.
His commercial business, rather businesses, keep him busy as does his home life.
The family business that Tim Graham now runs came about 20 years ago when Tim’s father called him up on the telephone.

DeKalb High’s Proctor earns Leadership honor

The United State Achievement Academy announced today that Whitney Proctor from DeKalb, Texas has been recognized by the United States Achievement Academy as a student of excellence in Leadership.
This is a prestigious honor very few students can hope to attain. In fact, the Academy recognizes fewer than 10 percent of all American high school students.
Whitney Proctor, who attends DeKalb High School, was nominated for this honor by Rod Naulls, a Band Director at the school. Whitney will appear in the United States Achievement Academy’s Official Yearbook which is published nationally.
“Recognizing and supporting our youth is more important than ever before in America’s history. Certainly, United States Achievement Academy students should be congratulated and appreciated for their dedication to excellence and achievement,” said Dr. George Stevens, Founder of the United States Achievement Academy.

Malta’s Renee Wright 2013 Tribune Teacher of the Year

Mrs. Renee Wright, a teacher at the Malta ISD for 31 years, was the overwhelming selection for the 2013 Bowie County Citizens Tribune Teacher of the Year.
Wright received far more nominations for the honor than any other local teacher and high praise from those who work with her and know her well.
Christine Evans said, “She has dedicated herself to helping develop the future of many students, as well as doing what is needed to make our school one of the best. She will be retiring after this year, and it will be hard to replace her with someone that has as much knowledge about our campus. “
Fellow Malta ISD teacher Susan Pickle said, “She has taught just about everyone that has ever come through Malta and has taught those of us who didn’t all the ropes.   She is a wonderful teacher and very deserving of such a reward.”
