All kinds of fun in New Boston this Saturday as the Chamber presents "Winter Wonderland."

Mel Hamilton, Superintendent of Malta ISD from 1990-2005, addresses the crowd at a ceremony in his honor, as current Malta Superintendent Brian Bobbitt looks on.  Malta ISD held the ceremony to re-name their gymnasium the Mel Hamilton Gymnasium in honor of Mr. Hamilton’s fifteen dedicated years of service to the district, and the growth and expansion the district experienced under his direction.

Mrs. Ada Haddock celebrated her 102nd birthday on Saturday, October 21 at Ponderosa Nursing and Rehabilitation in DeKalb.  Mrs. Haddock was born October 21, 1915 in Colgate, Oklahoma.  She and her husband of over 50 years, Weldon “Son” Haddock moved to Bowie County in the 1930’s and raised seven children.

DeKalb’s Colleen Crumpton has been rodeoing nearly as long as she can remember, and this year she has her eyes on the prize.  Colleen has held fourteen rodeo queen titles in as many years - from Little Miss New Boston Rodeo to Teen Miss UPRA in 2013, to her current title of Miss Naples Rodeo, just to name a few.  On November 16 she will travel to Sulphur Springs, Texas to compete for the title of Miss UPRA (United Professional Rodeo Association), the third largest rodeo association in the world.

Kitty Waddell, wife and mother of two, was diagnosed with incurable liver cancer in 2002.  Her case was so rare, that doctors in Texarkana referred her to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, where even doctors there had only ever treated a few cases like hers.  By 2008, Waddell had undergone two different liver surgeries and doctors were confident they had the growth of her cancer under control, when a regular mammogram showed three abnormalities in one of her breasts.  Just hours later, an ultrasound and biopsies confirmed that Kitty had breast cancer.

Fair season is back and Tractor Supply Company’s Mobile Fair Tour is making its way to the Titus County Fair. From Wednesday, Sept. 27 to Saturday, Sept. 30, fairgoers will have the opportunity to visit the 3,000-square-foot experience and join the rural lifestyle retailer in recognizing 4-H and FFA youth who are making a difference in their communities.
For the third year in a row, Tractor Supply’s fair team is embarking on the cross-country journey that began on June 8 in Illinois and will conclude on Oct. 22 in Arkansas.
New to the Mobile Fair Tour this year is Tractor Supply’s first ever “Great Neighbor” Essay Contest for 4-H and FFA students. The competition encourages youth to submit a short essay detailing how their participation in these organizations has empowered them to be a better neighbor.
