Bowie County Master Gardeners/Texas A&M Texarkana to present “GROWING COOL SEASON CROPS”

The Bowie County Master Gardeners/Texas A&M-Texarkana will present a program on “Growing Cool Season Crops” on Monday, September 10, 2018 at Texas A&M University from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The class is free and open to the public. The class will take place in the Science and Technology Building, Room 306. No reservation is required to attend.

The Program will be presented by James Lamb who is a current Arkansas Master Gardener. James is also a Plant Pathology Technician at the University of Arkansas Agricultural Experimental Station in Hope, Arkansas.

BCSO looking for suspect in Skagg's burglary

On 9-1-18 at approximately 11 AM a suspect entered the office at Skagg’s Country Store and took a bank bag containing cash. Attached is a photo of the individual. If anyone can identify this subject, please contact Investigator Ford at the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office. Thanks

Avery Teacher Under Investigation for Illegal Appropriation of Funds

A press released issued today by the Avery ISD notified the public of possible illegal actions within the school district. The press release reads;

Avery Independent School District recently discovered information regarding alleged illegal appropriation and/or expenditures of student activity funds. As a result, an investigation is currently underway.

Given the seriousness of the allegations, Avery ISD would like to reassert the District's foremost commitment to ensuring that all business operation are supportive of the instructional goals and objectives of the district. Moreover, Avery ISD expects each individual educator and employee to conduct oneself with integrity and to be a model of excellence for students.

As a final matter, the District will continue to investigate the matter, as well as to ensure compliance with all laws and Board policies.

Charlie grew up in De Kalb, Texas, and attended Texas A&M University, Blinn College, and Texarkana College. His family includes five generations of railroad men. His father, Charles, retired from Union Pacific Railroad after 43 years. His mother, Joni, is a municipal judge for the City of De Kalb.

 Kids of all ages can walk on the wild side of wellness during the 23rd annual Wild About Wellness Children’s Health Fair on Saturday, August 11, from 9 a.m. until 12 noon at Four States Entertainment Center, Texarkana (AR).

CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System, in conjunction with TownSquare Media, is bringing this FREE event for families in the Four States area. The fun event will include a variety of different health screenings, immunizations and access to a variety of medical professionals.

VanDeaver to host a series of “Listening Tour” events this fall

District 1 State Representative Gary VanDeaver, from New Boston,  has announced a series of meetings this fall in House District 1 the last week of September.  
He says, “Rather than like previous “Town Hall” meetings, my plans this year provide an opportunity for “focus group” discussions on specific topics so that attendees will have more time to delve into and discuss issues.”  He also said he would like to thank the organizations and people who have helped schedule the following dates and locations:  
•September 24 - Texarkana - Texarkana College 
•September 25 - Clarksville - McKenzie Memorial Methodist Church
•September 26 - Paris - Paris Junior College
•September 27 - Mount Vernon - Mt. Vernon ISD

Volunteers needed for 2018 Great Texarkana Duck Race

A Duck Labeling Party will be held Thursday, Aug. 9, in the CHRISTUS St. Michael North Conference Center in preparation for the 2018 Great Texarkana Duck Race. Volunteers will label 12,000 ducks for this year’s race.
