Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-Texas) hosted the Northeast Texas Tax Cut Roadshow Monday, where he visited businesses in Texas’ 4th Congressional District that were positively impacted by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.  The Roadshow included stops at Cypress Bank, Load Trail LLC, Tyson Foods and 903 Brewers.

“I voted for the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act because I firmly believe that putting more money back into the hands of the American people is the right way to fuel robust economic growth on a local and national level. Since this bill was signed into law, we’ve already seen an enormous positive impact here in Northeast Texas,” Ratcliffe said.

A statement issued today by New Boston Police Chief Tony King fires back at those protesting his firing of New Boston Lieutenant Johnny Millwood, with claims of misconduct and complaints on Millwood from within the department.

The letter comes on the heels of the announcement earlier today of a special called meeting of the New Boston City Council that lists the specific action of King’s termination as chief of the New Boston Police Department.

DLA Distribution Red River, Texas broke ground on a new 240,000 square foot general purpose warehouse in a ceremony on Thursday, April 19. 

According to keynote speaker United States Army Brig. Gen. John S. Laskodi, commanding general, Defense Logistics Agency Distribution, New Cumberland, Pennsylvania, “The construction of this new warehouse represents DLA Distribution’s dedication to the warfighter, providing increased storage capacity to deliver the right things… at the right place… at the right time.”

The Bowie County Sheriff's Office reports that on the evening of April 23, 2018, Deputy Shawn Martin stopped a black Ford truck for a traffic violation. The driver of this truck was identified as Tonnie Lane Summerlin.

Deputy Martin noticed that Summerlin was very nervous to the point he was sweating when there was not an apparent reason for him to be. Summerlin was asked for and granted Deputy Martin consent to search his truck. Lieutenant Chris Allison and Captain Robby McCarver arrived to assist Deputy Martin and stood with Summerlin while his vehicle was searched.

The New Boston ISD Board of Trustees held their regular monthly meeting on Monday, April 16, 2018, in the Board Room of the Administrative Building.  All trustees were present, with the exception of Lynn Davis.  Paula Williams led the invocation and Pledge of Allegiance.  This month’s recognitions were of high school Academic UIL participants and their coaches.  Fifty-one NBHS students participated in Academic UIL events this school year, with some students participating in multiple events.  Twenty-six of those students qualified to compete at the regional level, with four of those placing at region.  Consensus items were approved unanimously and the board recessed into a brief executive session.

After looking at forecasts and the weather information currently available Texas A&M University-Texarkana will close the campus at 1:00pm, Friday April 13.

There is a significant risk of severe weather this afternoon through this evening that could contain large hail, heavy rain, damaging winds and possibly tornadoes. The university is closing at 1:00pm so that those who need to get home may do so safely before the worst of the weather arrives.  University Police will remain on campus and will update students in dorms of any additional weather related developments.
