CLARENCE WAYNE THOMASSON

 

Clarence Wayne Thomasson, age 85 of New Boston, Texas passed away Friday, November 22, 2013 in a local hospital.  Mr. Thomasson was born December 29, 1927 in Indihoma, OK.  He was retired from LTV in Dallas, Texas, a retired Army Special Forces Green Beret, Veteran of WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam a member of the Austin Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, DeKalb, Tx.

 

Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Myrah Thomasson of New Boston, Texas, 4 daughters, Debbie Fields of Mena, Ark, Sandy King of New Boston, Tx, Linda Hudgins of Mena, Ark, and Patricia Shelly of Pine Bluff, N.C., six grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, one brother Ken Thomasson of Seattle, Wa and a  number of other relatives and friends.

Christine Harrington Keller, of De Kalb, Texas, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2013, in a De Kalb Nursing Home.  She was 74.

Mrs. Keller was born, January 4, 1939, in Bloomburg, Texas, to William and Mattie Philips Harrington.  She was a Homemaker, a retired Office Manager for De Kalb Medical Clinic and was a member of St Mary of the Cenacle Catholic Church in New Boston, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and a brother.

BALVINO AVILA

Balvino Avila, age 83 of DeKalb, Texas passed away Friday, November 22, 2013 in a local hospital.  Mr. Avila was born March 31, 1930 in Mexico.  He was Catholic. He was proceeded in death by wife Cleofas Hernandez.

Survivors include 2 daughters Eva Hernandez of DeKalb, Tx., and Aurora Avila of Mexico, 1 son Servando Avila of Chicago, IL., 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren  and a number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10: 00 A.M.,  Monday in  the Bates Rolf Chapel, DeKalb, Texas with Bro. Juan Puente and Father Anthony Stoeppel officiating. Interment will be in Hubbard Chapel Cemetery, Dekalb Texas under the direction of Bates-Rolf Funeral Home, DeKalb, Texas.

Dr. Shirley Wayne Qualls, age 79 of Avery, Texas passed away Sunday, November 10, 2013 at his residence.  Dr. Qualls was born April 17, 1934 in Texarkana, Texas,  He was a retired Minister, Retired United States Army and Vietnam Veteran , United States Naval and Korean War Veteran,  a member of the First Baptist Church, DeKalb,  a Belton, Texas member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the Kiwanis Club, Killeen, Texas. He is preceded in death by two grandsons, Louis Wayne Qualls and Bobby Lee Twitty who were both killed in action in Iraq.

Jimmy Earl McDonald, age 66 of Hooks, Texas passed away Monday, November 11, 2013 at his residence.  Mr. McDonald was born December 25, 1946 in Kermit, Texas.  He was a self employed retired Truck Driver, United States Army and Vietnam Veteran, Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient, Baptist, member of the VFW Post 5873, American Legion and a Harley Davison HOG Member. 

 

 Survivors include his wife, Sally McDonald of Leary Texas, one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Chad Stark of Houston, Texas; one sister, Sue Hilton of New Boston, Texas; three brothers, George McDonald of Woodville, Texas, Don McDonald of New Boston, Texas, and Rickey McDonald of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren, Brittany Stark, Bryan Stark and Lonnie Stark of Houston, Texas and a number of other relatives and friends.

Bryan Wayne Brown, age 46 of DeKalb, Texas, died Monday, November 11, 2013 in Simms, Texas. Bryan was born September 2, 1967 in Dayton, Texas. He was a Baptist and a Mechanic.

He is survived by his three sons and daughter-in-law, Bryan Wayne Brown, Jr. of Texarkana, Texas; Michael and Crystalin Brown of DeKalb, Texas; Brandon William Brown of Texarkana, Texas; the mother of his children, Tonya Brown of Texarkana, Texas; parents, Silas Brown of Texarkana, Texas and Mary Rowe of Kansas; one granddaughter, Caylee Brown; two brothers, Terry Brown and Steven Brown; one sister, Sabrina Hurt and numerous family and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 11 a.m. under the direction of Comforter Funeral Home in New Boston, Texas.

December 23, 1931 – September 28, 2013

 

Helen L. Hamby died Saturday, September 23, 2013. She was 81.

The youngest of six girls, Helen was born on December 23, 1931 in DeKalb, Texas to John Thomas and Susie Mae (Cook) Bunger.

Helen retired from working at Bank of America. She earned her associate degree while in her 60s.

Along with being a member of Church of Christ, Helen enjoyed cooking, sewing and being a grandmother.

Helen is survived by her sisters, Lucille Flatt and Louise Burkhalter; sons, Dewayne Russ, James Gregory Hamby and Robert B. Hamby; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

Patsy Mills

Patsy Mills

Patsy Ruth Trimm Mills was born February 8, 1926 in Red River County, Texas to Robert E. Lee and Nonnie Catherine Peek Trimm.

She went to be with her Lord on Friday, November 1, 2013 in a Texarkana, Texas Hospital.

Patsy married Harold Grogan Mills on September 29, 1942 in Bowie County, Texas.  After World War II they moved to Lamesa, Texas and then to Kermit where she helped run their Hot Oil business.  After raising seven children they retired to live on their ranch in Malta, Texas.

Mother was a Christian woman and a member of the Malta Baptist Church.  She was creative and imaginative whether she was designing her hats, growing beautiful roses, or sewing her children’s clothes.  She was a kind, soft spoken woman and everyone was always welcome in her home.  Mother will be remembered for her sweet smiles, warm hugs and “I love you”.  She was a lady of true southern charm.

HAZEL PAULINE MOODY

Hazel Pauline Moody, age 85 of DeKalb, Texas passed away Friday, November 1, 2013 at the Waterton Plaza Nursing facility.   Mrs. Moody was born October 21, 1928 in DeKalb, Texas. She was retired from Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant,  a member of Austin Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and is preceded in death by her husband James D. Moody, her daughter, Tena Ellis three brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include her son, David Moody of Arlington, Texas, a grandson, Jason Ellis of Hooks, Texas and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M, Monday, November 4, 2013 at Austin Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, DeKalb with Bro. Ronnie Pipes officiating.  Interment will be in Woodmen Cemetery, Dekalb under the direction of Bates-Rolf, DeKalb.   Visitation will be from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M., Sunday, November 3, 2013 at the funeral home.

Liesel Goodnight

Liesel “Lee” Giesla Hildegard Arzt Goodnight, formerly of New Boston, Texas, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2013  in Madison , Alabama.

Born in 1927, she was the daughter of the late Elsa and Wilhelm Markquardt of Bad Nauheim, Germany.  She died of natural causes.  She married the late James Arvel Goodnight, also of New Boston, in 1948.  During their marriage, they resided in Texarkana, Texas, Arlington & Falls Church, VA, and New Boston, Texas.  Lee moved to Madison, AL in 2007 after the passing of her husband.

Lee was an assistant dental hygienist and cosmetician but spent most of her life as a homemaker and mother.  She served as the President of the Red River Army Depot Wives Association and was an active volunteer for the Red Cross at Wadley Hospital in Texarkana, Texas.  She enjoyed reading, knitting and cooking.  She loved animals and pets were an important part of her family.
