Rutha Ann Downs, age 84 of New Boston, Texas passed away Monday, November 4, 2013 in a local hospital.  Mrs. Downs was born September 15, 1929 in Avery, Texas.  She was a homemaker, a member of Westside Baptist Church and is preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Downs, two daughters, Judy  Hall, Dennice Shearer and one sister, Wanda Shelton. 

Survivors include one daughter and son in law, Kay and James McDonald of New Boston, Texas, two grandsons, Heath McDonald of San Antonio, Texas, Josh Glass of Bloomburg, Texas, two granddaughters, Tena McGough of Texarkana, Texas, Rachel Hall –Biggs of Dallas, Texas, 5 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and a

William Ira Mitchell

William "Bill" Ira Mitchell of Texarkana, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 1, 2013. He was 56.

Bill was born in Texarkana, Arkansas, to Billy Bob and Dorothy Caddenhead Mitchell. He was a self employed Roofer for many years, a member of Jesus Camp of Texarkana, Texas and a Veteran of the United States Navy. Bill had a love for dogs and sheltered any that needed a home. At times he had rescued and kept over 50 Dogs.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Scott Mitchell; and a sister, Pam Strange.

Lora Lee Allen, age 72 of DeKalb, Texas passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at her residence.  Mrs. Allen was born March 5, 1941 in Mississippi.    She was a homemaker and is preceded in death by her husband, C.M. Allen and a son, Wayne Allen.

Survivors include  one son and daughter in law, Robert and Shellie Allen of DeKalb, Texas,  three grandsons, Christopher Allen of Omaha, Texas, Colby and Timmy Allen of DeKalb, Texas, one brother, Michael Goar of Arlington, Texas, two sisters, Kathy Hernandez of Irving, Texas, Patricia Goar of Jacksonville, Texas and a number of other relatives and friends.

BUD HOLLEY

Michael Lee ‘Bud’ Holley, Sr., age 58 of Maud, Texas  passed away Monday, October 21, 2013 at his residence.  Mr. Holley was born January 21, 1955 in Maud, Texas.  He was a Leader Mechanic with Red River Army Depot,  a Baptist and is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Geraldine Holley and two brothers, Charles Holley and Jerry Don Holley.

Survivors include his wife, Vickey Holley of Maud, Texas, two sons, Michael Lee Holley, Jr and Shade Holley of Maud, Texas, one daughter, Amber Edge of Maud, Texas,  one brother, Bobby Holley of Las Cruces, New Mexico, two sisters, Jane Simmons of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, Debbie White of Maud, Texas, two grandchildren, Tyler Edge and Austin Edge of Maud, Texas and a number of other relatives and friends.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date.

Leland Vay Sweeten, age 70, of Texarkana, Ark. Died Monday, October 21, 2013 at a Texarkana nursing home. Leland was born May 26, 1943 in Okemah, Okla. He was a carpenter and United Pentecostal.

He is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kristimari Sweeten.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Sweeten of Texarkana, Ark.; four sons and daughters-in-law, Alan Sweeten of Texarkana, Ark., Michael and Sandra Sweeten of Texarkana, Ark., Lary Sweeten of Price, Utah and Richard and Ashley Sweeten of Texarkana, Texas; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

CHARLES RAMEY

Charles Leroy Ramey, age 73 of Simms, Texas passed away Thursday, October 17, 2013 at his residence.  Mr. Ramey was born July 10, 1940 in Phoenix, Arizona.  He was a Baptist, retired from Construction, a  life member of the American Legion  Doyle Williams Post, Life member of the North American Hunting Club and an United States Army Veteran. 

Survivors include his wife, Rockie Ramey of Simms, Texas, two sons, Billy Keith Ramey of Simms, Texas, Charles Leroy Ramey, Jr of Gonzales Louisiana, two daughters, Donna Raye Tonkinson of Hooks, Texas, Faith Tindell of Hooks, Texas, three brothers, Robert Ramey, Jimmy Ramey, Pugh Ramey all of Arizona, 7 grandchildren and a number of other relatives and friends. 

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

CAROLAN SUE FREEMAN-MERWORTH

Carolan Sue Freeman-Merworth, age 58 of Maud, Texas went to be with the Lord on October 21, 2013.  She was born on April 19, 1955.  She was a retired Respiratory Therapist from Christus St. Michael in Texarkana, Texas, a Mary Kay Director and an award winning gospel singer/songwriter.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Miriam Freeman of Maud, Texas.

PAISLEY KATE STRINGER

July 4, 2013 – October 15, 2013

 

Paisley Kate Stringer was born on July 4, 2013 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Zack and Katie Stringer. She passed peacefully in the arms of her loving parents and went to be with our Heavenly Father on October 15, 2013 at Arkansas Children’s Hospital, after her battle with a congenital heart defect, while waiting for a heart transplant.

She is preceded in death by her sister, Gracelyn Faith Stringer.

Betty Lou McMillan passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at her home in Maud, Texas. She was 67.

Betty was born September 25, 1946, in Gilmer, Texas, to Emmett Oris and Mary Alice Pitman Davis. On December 21, 1974, she was married to Larry McMillan in Hugo, Oklahoma. She was a Central Office Supervisor for GTE and a Methodist.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; and a step son, Brett McMillan.

She is survived by her husband, Larry G. McMillan of Maud, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, Jon Trace and Amber McMillan of Keller, Texas; a step son and step daughter-in-law, Scott and Lisa McMillan of Bedford, Texas; a sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Jim Baker of Harleton, Texas; 6 grandchildren and numerous other relatives.

Layton Jase Strange, of Texarkana, Texas, passed away Monday, October 7, 2013, at a Little Rock hospital. He was 7 months old.

Layton was born March 14, 2013, in Texarkana, Texas, to Kyle James Strange and Cora Rebecca Hughes.

He is survived by his parents, Kyle Strange and Cora Hughes of Texarkana, Texas; maternal grandparents, Penny Hughes of Simms, Texas and Tim Hughes of Leary, Texas; paternal grandparents, Tonja and Kevin Strange of Texarkana, Texas; maternal great grandfather, Jerry Hughes of Hope, Arkansas; paternal great grandparents, Nellie and Tom Bryan of Dallas, Texas; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 11, 2013, at Wards Creek Cemetery, De Kalb, Texas, with Bro. Steve Minter officiating.
