New Boston hires new AD

In a special called meeting tonight, the New Boston ISD School Board voted to hire Coach Craig Fant as the district's Athletic Director.

Coach Fant has recently been serving as the Offensive Coordinator for the Atlanta Rabbits in Cass County.

Fant was instrumental in guiding the Rabbs offense as they made a run deep into the state playoffs last season.

Texas A&M University-Texarkana to host softball tryouts

Texas A&M University-Texarkana will host tryouts for its new fastpitch softball team April 23 and April 30 at Bramlett Field at Spring Lake Park, 4303 North Park Road, Texarkana, Texas.

 

Participants must be graduating from high school in 2017 or college/university transfer students.

 

Tryouts for infielders and catchers will be Sunday, April 23, from 12-5 p.m. Tryouts for outfielders will be Sunday, April 30, from 12-5 p.m. Each tryout session will have fielding and hitting opportunities.

Hornets sting New Boston, Pirates win

The Hooks Hornets handed the New Boston Lions their second district loss Tuesday night as Hooks hurler Dylan Pool earned the complete game 4-1 win.

The Lions took the early lead in the 1st when Bryce Green singled in a run. After scoring the tying run in the top of the 2nd on an error, Hooks took the lead for good in the 3rd inning with a Seth Mahar single driving the score to 2-1.

Dylan Pool notched the win on the hill for the Hornets allowing one run on six hits in a complete game of work. Philip Sissons took the loss for New Boston allowing three runs on four hits in six innings.

 

The James Bowie Pirates scored in every inning as they run ruled the Detroit Eagles 10-0 in five innings last night.

Bailey Obenoskey earned the shutout win on the mound for the Pirates allowing just four hits and striking out nine.

Lady Bulldogs slam McLeod

The Avery Lady Bulldogs dehorned the Lady Longhorns of McLeod on Tuesday with a 9-5 win and are now 1-0 in district play.

Jill Whitney earned the win on the hill for Avery giving up just five hits and striking out 12 in a complete game of work. Erin Parker took the loss for McLeod.

Whitney also rocked the Lady Longhorns with a grand slam over the left field fence as part of her 2 for 3, four RBI night. Ashten Simington and Madison Braden also had RBI’s for the Lady Bulldogs and Alexis Coughran, Brianna Baird and Meagan Roberts each singled in the game.

Lady Pirates oust L-K

The Lady Pirates from James Bowie notched a district win on Tuesday, knocking off Linden-Kildare by a score of 11-6.

Sheridan Byram got the win on the mound for James Bowie and Baylee Williams was the big stick at the plate with three hits and five RBI’s in the game.

Lady Bulldogs beat Chisum

The Avery Lady Bulldogs chewed up the visiting Paris Chisum Lady Mustangs on Friday, by a final score of 5-2.

Starting pitcher Jill Whitney (pictured) earned the win on the hill with 17 strikeouts in six plus innings of work, allowing just six hits, as Quinn Lipe handled the catching duties behind the plate.

Whitney also had a great day with the bat, leading the Lady Bulldogs with a pair of hits and two runs batted in.

Also at the plate, Brianna Baird added a single and an RBI and Meagan Roberts and Brenna Brown each had a single in the game.

The Lady Bulldogs will return to the diamond this Friday at 5:30 p.m. as they travel to play in the Debra McMasters Tournament in Hope, Arkansas.

Pirates blank Rivercrest 9-0

Bailey Obenoskey hurled a shutout from the mound and Caige Croley was in beast mode at the plate, as the James Bowie Pirates shipwrecked the Rivercrest Rebels by a score of 9-0 on Tuesday.

Obenoskey went the distance allowing just three hits and striking out 10 to earn the win.

Cardinals battle back to beat Bloomburg

Coach Scott Sanders saw his squad battle back from an early deficit Tuesday night to earn an 8-6 win over Bloomburg.

The Cardinals fell behind 3-0 in the top of the 2nd inning, but rallied back in the bottom of the inning to score four runs of their own to take the lead.

The game was knotted at six all in the bottom of the 5th inning when Maud took control and the lead for good as R.J. Bailey singled and drove in two runs to seal the win.

The Cardinals totaled 11 hits in the game with Bailey and Cameron Mills each contributing with three hits. Hunter Thomas, Rayne Bailey and Brooks Minter each had an RBI for the Maud.

Lady Lions rout DeKalb

The New Boston Lady Lions improved to 3-1 in district  as they played park ranger and caged the DeKalb Lady Bears by a score of 14-2.

The Lady Bears got on the scoreboard first with a run in the top of the 1st, but from there it was all Lady Lions as they ripped off runs in each of the next four innings. New Boston scored once in their half of the 1st, two in the 2nd inning, seven in the 3rd and four more in the 4th to put the game far out of reach.

The Lady Lions rocked the DeKalb pitching staff for 14 hits in the game, including a dinger off the bat of Mckenzee Thomas and a 2-2, four RBI night from Alexis Morden.
